Abstract

Purpose : The aim of this study was to analyze the experiences of nursing officers on overseas deployment in order to help other officers adapt to life overseas.

Method : Collected data were based on the method introduced by Colaizzi( 1978). 34 subjects, 11 subject groups, and 5 categories were drawn.

Results : Categories were ¡¯fear of death in strange and deteriorated environment¡¯, ¡¯conflict between departments and extra activity besides duty¡¯, ¡¯interpersonal relationships¡¯, ¡¯gender specific difficulties¡¯, and ¡¯adaptation and retrospection¡¯.

Conclusion : A qualitative study using a phenomenological approach that give new insight into the experiences of deployed officers, in particular female officers, is useful as it allows a better understanding of the limitations of deployed officers.
